JULIE FREUNDT
was born on December 24, on the Christmas Eve which her
family celebrated, thereafter, with a double motive.
Since then the Freundt was delighted with a girl that
very soon put them all head over heels, by her mischief
as well as her pranks. From the very young, she felt a strong attraction for the arts. Her mother, Julie, was her first influence, she was a great fan of guitar playing and singing; her godfather Eduardo, composer, singular dancer of "Marinera Limeña", a Peruvian dance, and one of the better friends of Chabuca Granda, famous composer and singer of Peruvian music; and her aunt Maribel, a singer of much elegance and delicacy, who was part of the singing group "Los Cinco" (The Five) for whom Chabuca Granda especially composed the song "Quizás Un Día Así", to be performed in the musical work "Limeñísima". Julie's childhood was filled with poetry, dance and handwork. At the age of eight, she had, for the first time, contact with the guitar, thanks to the fact that her mother taught her some chords of easy execution. Thus, her first song, entitled "Miremos Todos" ("Let's All Watch") was born. Later, while in school, she combined her studies with drawing and sports. It is through drawing that she gets interested in the architectural arts, career that she pursues thereafter, maintaining always in latent form her musical vocation. She made her theatrical debut interpreting the main role in the musical comedy "La Novicia Rebelde" ("The Sound of Music), as a farewell on her graduation. In 1988, after having accomplished a number of presentations in Barranco, a Lima suburb, Julie is invited to sing at the Lima Sheraton Hotel, this marks her start as a full fledged artist in the local circuit, obtaining very favorable mentions. This is evidenced in 1990 with her first recording production titled "Algo de Mi" ("Something of Me"), in which she includes her own compositions. In 1991, she discovers her passion for investigating the musical folklore that is sung in each Latin America country, specially, for the music of the Peruvian coast, and makes her second recording production titled, in honor of Chabuca Granda, "Déjame que te cante...Chabuca" ("Let Me Sing You...Chabuca"), which leads to a spectacle where she collects and presents not only songs and street songs (Pregones) but also dances under the title of "Soy del Perú" ("I Am From Peru"), and thus she takes part in various events, representing Perú. From this activities, came forth invitations to perform at various events in several European countries. Julie was, in 1992, consolidated as an interpreter and became one of the most representative artists of this country. Having carried the Peruvian music to Spain, England, France, Germany, Sweden and Bulgaria in Europe; to Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile in Latin America she is now starting to open an artistic road into the United States. In 1993, her third production recording "Julie...del Perú" (Julie... from Perú) is a recorded testimony compiled from all her investigations and reflecting grace and exquisiteness when she intones a "vals" or a 'festejo", the music from her beloved country. [Back to index] 1994 was a year full of search, to reach the young people through their own music and thus to endeavor to find her own identity. This dream is made true in a fourth production titled "Sarambé", here she presents the music from the Peruvian coast scored with modern and contemporary arrangements making a special emphasis on the Negro inheritance of the Peruvian music from the coast. Julie is, without any doubt, the interpreter the Peruvian music needs to transcend frontiers and to project the vital new image that our country needs. Recent production Her recent production is called Uniendo Generaciones a compilation of great composers, that with their work they have made possible this production.
